Scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope (jwst) have discovered diverse ices and complex molecules in the Chameleon I dark molecular cloud. The light from background stars is examined to detect the absorption lines in the infrared spectrum that indicated molecules in the cloud. Webb a light gathering power make these measurements possible.
